  • Save the Gardens Bounty for Winter

Every year the vegetable garden produces food for me. Some years I have enough to eat and to share with plenty left to put up for the winter. But every year is different and this year my garden is a bit of a disappointment. Here it is the end of August and Im not able to gorge on tomatoes the way I usually do. And although I planted only one zucchini plant this year, so far Ive harvested just one zucchini. Still, I will put some produce in the freezer, just not as much as Id like.welcome to michaels kors bags on sale, best service and low prices.
For those gardeners with plenty, here are some easy ways to put produce aside for use this winter. First, tomatoes: freeze them whole. Just put clean, dry tomatoes into freezer bags and suck the air out with a straw after closing the bag 99 percent of the way. Use them this winter in soups and stews the way you would canned tomatoes. Knowing that they are your own makes them even better. You can use them with the skins on, if you wish, but running hot tap water over the frozen tomatoes and rubbing gently will remove them.
In past years I have always dehydrated cherry tomatoes in my Garden Master Pro dehydrator after cutting them in half. The result is a sun dried tomato that is sweet and wonderful for stir fries and soups. But last summer I tried putting some in the freezer whole and liked them for cooking. I just throw the whole frozen cherry tomatoes in soups and they are great and much less work than drying them.
Each year I use imperfect tomatoes to make paste. I cut out the bad parts, throw them in the food processor and puree them. Then I boil down the resulting slurry in a heavy cast-iron enameled pot until I can literally stand up a spoon in it.Save on Christian Louboutin Pump! All the Sales, All in One Place. That takes all evening at low heat. I leave it overnight, cover off, and in the morning spoon the paste into ice cube trays and freeze it. Later I put the cubes in freezer-grade zipper bags.
Many people dont bother freezing summer squash and greens or even green beans and broccoli because theyve had bad luck with the results: mushy, welcome to michaels kors handbags sale,Free shipping‎! overcooked veggies. But there are a few simple steps you can take to have wonderful, fresh-tasting crunchy vegetables in mid-winter that were grown in your own garden.
Many vegetables taste better, mid-winter, if they have been blanched briefly boiled before freezing. Blanching is way of killing aging enzymes in veggies so the produce does not get woody, old and tasteless in the freezer. But many experts suggest blanching fresh veggies for 3 minutes, or even more. In my book, that is fully cooking them. And when you cook them again before eating, the result is mush.
The solution? Blanch for just 60 seconds or so. Depending on your stove, that may mean not even getting the water back up to a full boil. The trick is to have lots of water at a rolling boil, and not too many veggies. I watch the color of my vegetables as I blanch them. Kale, for example, will turn a brighter green telling me that its ready to be taken off the heat.
Its important to cool your blanched vegetables as soon as they come out of the pot. Some experts recommend dropping them in a big bowl of water with ice cubes. Me? Im too cheap to buy ice cubes in the quantity I would need. I just fill the sink with cold tap water, and it works just fine. Next I spin dry the veggies in a salad spinner with a string-pull (Zyliss brand is one) and blot dry with tea towels before bagging and putting them in the fridge.
My exceptions to blanching include tomatoes, peppers and all berries. Everything else gets a quick swim in boiling water. Last year a kind reader suggested that kale need not be blanched, so I tried freezing some without blanching. It was fine, but fewer kales fit into each bag.
Dehydrating fruits and vegetables is another good way to store food, particularly if you dont have much freezer space. Apples and pears dry nicely and make for good winter snacks. Even if you dont grow your own, you can buy or pick fresh apples cheaper than buying dried fruit. I dry apples and pears until they are dry, but not brittle. I store them in freezer-grade bags in the pantry.
Peppers and tomatoes, sliced,Shop discounted mk handbags on hotmkbags. dry well and are great in winter soups and stews. I dry most of my hot peppers until brittle and then grind them in my coffee grinder. That allows me to add just a smidgeon of hotness if having company or a lot if its just for me. I have read that the seeds and the white fibers inside the pepper contain a lot of capsaicin, the chemical that gives hot peppers their heat, so I dry those, too.
Ive gotten a lot of e-mail from discouraged gardeners this year. It wasnt a great year for many of us.Shop for Michael Kors Monogram at hotmkbags. But there are still farm stands selling fresh produce, and often they will sell cheaply by the bushel if you want to store food for the winter. I may end up doing so myself.

  • Mulberry's Industrial Revolution

The jeans-and-jacketed director of group supply at Mulberry,Shop for Michael Kors Monogram at hotmkbags. Ian Scott, spurns his "executive washroom". Instead, makes a point of walking the thunderously noisy, 150m-ish length of the company's cavernous factory in Chilcompton, Somerset. This he does so he can chat with any of Mulberry's 270 expert on-site handbag makers who might want a word. And, he adds, so that they don't think that he's a hoity-toity "tosser".
For hours, we linger together beneath the factory's red coil forest of compressed-air tubing and explore its seven U-shaped production lines. Between them, these produce 1,100 Mulberry handbags each week. Once packed, delivered and on sale, each bag will range in price from 895, for the Bayswater in natural tan being made on line five, to 3,000 for the Willow tote bag in midnight blue jacquard velvet (as seen on Mulberry's catwalk at Claridge's) under construction on line seven. From the prototype team to the quality-control team, each one undergoes hundreds of processes - including cutting, stitching, skiving and inking - before it is ready to go.
Scott has an answer for every question thrown at him, however tricky. Why, for instance, have designer handbags (and shoes) so rocketed in cost over the past few years? Especially when the skin from which most are made is such an abundant by-product of the booming meat industry? With barely a pause, he replies that fierce competition from other luxury fashion houses, and car companies increasing their production of plush, leather-interior vehicles, has driven up leather prices.
Where outside of Britain does Mulberry manufacture bags? Unblinkingly, Scott says that many (including all men's bags) are made in three Turkish factories also used by brands including Dunhill and Givenchy. The "small leather goods" (such as purses, wallets and phone-holders) are made in China, as is the Mulberry scotch-grain luggage spotted earlier in such abundance on the platforms of Bath Spa train station.
Its production and clientele might be globalised, but Mulberry still defines itself by its Englishness. Three decades before it was bought out in 2003 by the Singaporean retail entrepreneur Christina Ong, the brand was born in the Somerset garage of 21-year-old Roger Saul, who named it after a tree he was fond of in the grounds of his old school. Today its advertising campaigns are set in English forests, by English seaside piers, or - as with this season - in owl-infested English country houses. Its creative director, Emma Hill (who will step down after this September's collection) has used everything from English ice cream to English dog lovers and English country gardens as inspiration for her clothes.
Which is why, as Scott says: "We have made a decision as a business that we want at least 50 per cent of our manufacturing to be in the UK. We are a British brand,Save onChristian Louboutin Pump! All the Sales, All in One Place.Shop discounted mk handbags on hotmkbags. so we want to be making our goods in Britain."
In 2006,welcome to michaels kors bags on sale, best service and low prices. this factory employed only 100 workers, of whom half were over 50, and 13 per cent over retirement age. By next year, in addition to the 270 here, Mulberry will employ a further 300 English workers at a new, 5 million factory an hour down the road in Bridgewater. This new facility, situated next to a Morrison's distribution centre but romantically called the Willows, will skew Mulberry's now-much-younger workforce (30 per cent are over 50, and 30 per cent under 40) further towards youth - many employees on its 10 new production lines will be apprentices from the local college. The cost of their training has, in part, been met by a 2.5 million government grant, paid in instalments over several years and dispensed by a fund dedicated to creating jobs in areas of low employment and opportunity.
Yet, as a veteran of many factory visits in France and Italy, I find it strangely exciting to encounter in England a facility that appears to match those, in scale, professionalism and expertise. I think I might be a geek too.
Five months ago, Mulberry hired Fabio del Perugia, a gap-toothed and grizzled 60-something Italian leather goods maestro who has spent his life as an artisan in factories in Morocco, welcome to michaels kors handbags sale,Free shipping‎! China and Portugal - as well as Italy. "Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo: for us the leather is an important tradition," he says with an Italianate shrug. "Here, there is not so much this tradition, but the quality is good and we are producing on a higher and higher level. And I like England - although the people the mentality is not as friendly as in Italy."
On the floor, almost everyone wears polo shirts with the Mulberry tree logo (designed by Roger Saul's sister) over their hearts; most wear grey (production-line workers), black shirts are the managers, while white shirts (or occasionally lab jackets) are the quality-control specialists.
Amy Andrews, 29, is Mulberry's raw materials production technologist - and the star of this page, pictured right, alongside Cara Delevingne. After posing gamely with the grey felt prototype of the Alexa bag and a leather-measuring tool used in the absence of Delevingne's owl, she explains her complicated title. She's responsible for the quality of the leather used to make every single handbag. Each model, in each colour, has a "master skin" - a template against which all resulting bags are measured.
"I would say 90 per cent of our leathers are from Italy, where they inspect everything against our standard before it is shipped. And then they come to us for a final yes or no." A former employee of a Yeovil tannery, she adds: "Every skin is different, so it's handy to know how the leathers are made."
Grey-shirted Rosie Daly, 23, has just returned to work after four months at home with her new daughter, Poppy. Sitting on a galvanised iron stairwell, she says she joined Mulberry as an apprentice after realising that her first job - as a hair stylist - had only limited prospects. First as an apprentice, then as a stitcher, she has been with the company for five years. Now her job is to manage the training of each new wave of apprentices: today there is a group on their first day. "Their first week is just about getting connected and getting to know each other. A lot of people who do come, as soon as they walk in the factory I don't think they ever imagine it is going to be as big and loud as it is. It can be quite daunting, until you get placed in a line and introduced to everyone. A lot of people live close, and there are a lot of friends here."
One of the first things apprentices notice are the large laminated price signs - 1,100, or maybe 1,800, or even 3,000 - positioned at the end of each line. This, says Daly, is to remind workers of the cost of the bags they are crafting: "It's not just about getting them down the line, getting your bonus and getting home. These are hand-made bags, bags that people pay a lot of money for, and the signs remind you of that."

  • Totti's Last Stand

Watching AS Roma play last year was a privilege. That is until they decided to get serious and terminate Zdenek Zemans contract. With the introduction of caretaker manager Aurelio Andreazzoli, the team started to play a more structured style of football, and managed to edge out bitter rivals Lazio for sixth place in the Serie A.
The squad has undergone a host of changes during the transfer window, having bid adieu to stars such Pablo Osvaldo and Marquinhos to Southampton and PSG respectively. Roma have also bid farewell to club legend Simone Perotta; the World Cup winner decided to hang up his boots after nine years at the club.
It is widely expected that the eternal city will also say goodbye to Erik Lamela, 21.welcome to Michael Kors 2013,free Shipping available. Buy Now!‎ The Argentine international has been linked with a 35m move to Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and is being hailed as the replacement for Real Madrid target Gareth Bale. If this deal goes through, then the Gillorossi wouldve lost both of their Serie A top scorers in the mercato.
It isnt all glum news for the fans of the club, though,Find great deals on hotmkbags for michael kors wallet Michael Kors Hamilton Bags in "Women's Clothing, Handbags and Purses". Shop with confidence. as the board has bought in quality replacements for every single position to back their new manager, Rudi Garcia, who has taken over from the caretaker manager after spending five years in France at Lille.
The young manager has bought with him a sense of belief to the team, which is also reflected in the off field dealings in the transfer market. The club has already secured the signatures of several high profile players including former PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman.
The Dutch international had been linked with clubs such as Manchester United and AC Milan but Roma swooped in with a 16.5m bid to steal him from under everyones noses. Strootman is known for being a defensive midfielder who specialises in breaking up play, but equally impressive is his tactical knowledge that allows him to pick immaculate passes at the most crucial of times.
The Giallorossi have also bought in former Arsenal winger Gervinho for a reported 8m. The Ivory Coast international will be looking to impress after a relatively quiet stint in the Premier League that saw him score just nine goals in 45 premiership appearances.
They also solidified their defence after signing U-19 Croatia international Tin Jedvaj from Dinamo Zagreb and Moroccan centre-back Mehdi Benatia from Udinese. The new centre-back pairing will be looking to combine with stalwarts such Nicolas Budisso and Federico Balzaretti and will also be hoping to link up well with former Brazil international full-back Maicon.
The team is also looking to bring in a replacement for Lamela and as such is taking steps to secure the transfer of Adem Ljacic of Fiorentina. The young Serb has been at the centre of a long and drawn out transfer saga between the Florentine outfit and AC Milan, but now appears to be on his way to the capital to replace the departing Argentine.
The eternal city will depend on their captain Francesco Totti for one last season, before the World Cup winner finally hangs up his boots and passes on the torch to Daniele De Rossi, another thoroughbred Roman.
For the first time in years does the Stadio Olympico have a team that can keep up with the league leaders and actually challenge for a place in the Champions League. The goal has to be that then, but the reality of the situation is that every single team in the top half of the Serie A standings from last year has improved considerably.
And with the loss of two (potentially three) key players, AS Roma can develop only to a limited extent, which might not be enough to qualify for the Champions League. Having said that, it is important for Roma to know that this season is set up to be the most competitive in more than a decade and no one can say who will come out on top with any surety.

"I am not sure the president is ready to do that."
Roberts was in Lawrence Tuesday as part of a statewide tour while Congress takes its traditional August recess. In his remarks to the Chamber of Commerce audience, Roberts also spoke about several other issues pending in Washington, including the possibility of a federal government shutdown if Congress cannot agree on a budget before Oct. 1.
Some congressional Republicans have talked about refusing to pass a budget that includes funding for the Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare." And the president has indicated he will not sign a budget that does not include funding for his foremost legislative program.

  • $1000 to get a sign approved

A MAROOCHYDORE businessman has been advised to spend $1000 getting approval for a sign worth a few hundred dollars. The approval is one of a list of hoops that Danny's Desks and Chairs proprietor Lee Moore found he would have to jump through for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council after a building audit.
Mr Moore said council red tape was forcing business people like him to waste time solving silly problems at great cost."Yes, there's a certain amount of accountability, but I think there also needs to be a certain amount of common sense as well," he said.Mr Moore said the 1m by 1.8m sign on the roof of his business had only cost him a few hundred dollars. But he was told that he would have to pay a $711 application fee to the council to get approval for it. He was also advised to have a town planner lodge the application on his behalf, which he said would cost about $350.
"If I've got to employ someone else to lodge the form for me, doesn't that tell you something about how difficult the paperwork is?" he said. The audit also required weeds be removed, a stake holding a tree be pulled out, and a bike rack be installed at the building - another requirement that left Mr Moore shaking his head.
"I'm a furniture store. If somebody was to come around and ride away with a desk or a chair on the back of their bike, I'd give it to them for free because it would be that impressive," Mr Moore said.Mr Moore said he would comply with all requirements, but said the council's requirements went beyond common sense. He said he supported Mayor Mark Jamieson and the council's push to lure businesses to the Coast, but said more needed to be done to smooth a path for small businesses.
"I supported Mark in the early days when he was going through the election phase and I still do..."I don't know where it's going wrong. Why, down the chain, you've got all these guys walking around antagonising people for little things," he said.A council spokesman confirmed that an audit at the Danny's Desks and Chairs premises had identified the bike rack, signage approval, and minor landscaping work for follow-up.wholesale High quality Armani business suit from www.googbusiness.com homepage.
The spokesman said the audits were part of the council's "best practice approach" to development.Another council representative referred the Daily to Cr Russell Green, who holds the regional planning portfolio,Buy buy cheap Lululemon Outerwear Yoga Clothes, Custom Fit Stripe Shirt and more. rather than the mayor for comment.Cr Green said he did not know the Danny's Desks and Chairs site or its development approvals, but it would be a "free for all" if there were no rules - and the council generally tried to help businesses follow them."I can't provide a comment on a specific case, but council does everything it can to make it easy for business to be able to comply," he said.
Mr Abbott is likely to make the announcement alongside his small business spokesman Bruce Billson in the electorate of Bennelong - held by Liberal MP John Alexander - and which Labor is keen to win back from the Coalition after Kevin Rudd recruited Jason Yat-sen Li to run as the candidate.
The announcement will also coincide with the arrival of the southern hemisphere's largest mobile billboard known as "Skyboard" to Sydney as part of the NSW Business Chamber's pre-election campaign - "Small business, too big too ignore".Central to the Coalition's pitch today is a promise to elevate the standing of the portfolio by ensuring it becomes a key Treasury responsibility and that a small business minister remains in cabinet.
Decisions taken in Treasury that affect tax and regulatory policy as well as fiscal strategy will need to take into consideration the needs of small business operators, with the number of private sector jobs being provided by small business having dropped from about 53 per cent at the end of the Howard government to about 43 per cent today.
Mr Abbott will use the announcement to ram home key Coalition initiatives to boost small business activity, including his promise to cut $1 billion in red and green tape costs every year, reduce the company tax rate and undertake a root a and branch review of the competition framework.welcome to Coach Grade AAA Sunglasses, free Shipping available. There are roughly two million small businesses in Australia, employing more than seven million Australians with representatives of the NSW Business Chamber Board of Directors and management poised to meet today with small business operators following the arrival of the "Skyboard" which has more than 300sqm of advertising space.
Mr Billson told The Australian the success of small businesses and family enterprises was critical to the success of the national economy and attacked Labor's treatment of the portfolio, with six ministers having served in the role since 2007."I'm facing my sixth small business minister," Mr Billson said, listing them as Craig Emerson, Nick Sherry, Mark Arbib, Brendan O'Connor, Chris Bowen and the latest incumbent, Gary Gray.
"Labor has consistently ignored the interest and issues of small business men and women. They deserve a whole lot more respect and a positive plan to support their success and a government as committed and working as hard for that success as they are," he said.Mr Abbott will use the announcement as an opportunity to demonstrate his economic credentials, his commitment to creating one million new jobs within five years and attack Labor for introducing new and costly regulation.

"Bosch's extensive OE knowledge and years of experience in the development of braking technology has been critical in helping us design our braking products to offer the same consistent and superior braking performance as OE," said Mike Jaskae, product manager, braking products for Bosch.
The Bosch brake shoes feature domestic, Asian and European applications; matching OE-style design to guarantee proper fit; 100-percent asbestos-free friction formulations to ensure extended wear, consistent braking performance and long life; rust-prevention coating to enhances durability; bonded and riveted coverage on most domestic and commercial applications to match OE method of attachment; and 100-percent steel shoes for durable construction and longer life.

The future is now. This is what 3D printing has been moving towards: printing a practical, zero-assembly item in the background while you live your life, like a Star Trek replicator in slow motion.
Four pairs of wedge shoes created by Finnish designer Janne Kyttanen of 3D Systems have been made available as free downloads on the website of 3D Systems' printing company Cubify.
Although the shoes were designed to be printed on the CubeX 3D printer, they should be fine to print on any printer with the same size printing area or larger — 275x265x240 millimetres — and each single shoe takes about six or seven hours to print. Each pair is available in US sizes 35 to 40.
The basic design is a plain pair of peep-toe wedges with three variations: Macedonia, Leaf and Facet. They are printable in whatever colour printing material you can get your hands on. Macedonia has a flat strap with the wedge dotted with holes; Leaf is covered with a grooved pattern; and Facet looks like it has been carved from polygons.
"I don't know what it is with women and shoes, but I like it," Kyttanen said in a press release. "I would like it even better if my girlfriend could wear a different pair every single day. Today, this is a reality. Women can print this first collection of shoes overnight and wake up every morning to a new pair."
The aim of the collection is to attract new users to 3D printing. While the technology has been used to create jewellery and haute couture, so far, women have not seen the possibilities at home, 3D Systems believes.

  • Kors Gores Coach

Once again, Kors has proven that it's the new leader when it comes to luxury handbags and other high-end fashion accessories.
The Hong Kong-based tote tastemaker delivered another blowout quarter this morning. Revenue soared 55% to $640.Shop discounted mk handbags on hotmkbags.9 million, fueled by better than 50% growth at both the retail and wholesale levels. Net income shot 82% higher to $125 million -- or $0.61 a share. Analysts were banking on a profit of just $0.49 a share on $570.5 million in revenue.
Kors beating the pros isn't a surprise.Shop hotmkbags for the latest fashion trends in Michael Kors Shoulder Bags for ladies. It has come through with besting quarterly expectations by double-digit percentage margins consistently since going public two years ago.
It also isn't a surprise to see Kors doing so well while Coach is in a funk.
Coach's report last week was a disappointment. Net sales climbed by a mere 6% to $1.22 billion, and adjusted net income inched just 1% higher. That doesn't look so hot when stacked against Kors' growth at 55% and 82%, respectively.
The disparity can also be illustrated by the ridiculous difference in retail comps. North American comps soared 25% for Kors during the period, providing a stark contrast to the 1.7% slide at Coach during the same three months.
Worldwide retail comps at Kors have jumped 41%, 37%, and now 27% in the last three quarters. Coach, on the other hand, has posted negative comps in two of the past three periods.

Rococo Dessous is talking with several department stores about carrying the line, including Harrods and Selfridges in Europe, Bergdorf Goodman in the U.S., and Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's Bloomingdale's and Harvey Nichols in the Middle East, Hertli said.
Despite a shaky global economy,Shop for Michael Kors Monogram at hotmkbags. Hertli said he has little concern that demand for luxury goods will fluctuate much or that his clients will have to choose between a gold bra and panties or other high-end goods, such as an exclusive bag or watch.

Not everyone willing to shell out more than a grand for these golden items is looking to parade her purchase. That's particularly true in the Middle East, Hertli said, while it's the other extreme in Russia.

All the Sales, All in One Place. of Cleavland, Oh. – that gave OnX a key platform on which to grow that U.S. business.
Cox came to OnX last year to run the U.S.There are numerous diversified high heels at christian louboutin shoes for sale. business for OnX, building that Agilsys base into a wider managed services play in the U.S. market. A veteran of the channel, he had previously served for eight years as president and CEO of solution provider Logicalis Inc, overseeing six acquisitions and growing U.S. revenue from $170 million to $600 million. Before Logicalis he held several senior positions with HP, including as vice-president and general manager of North American sales for the business customer organization.
“When the opportunity presented itself to come and run the U.S. business for OnX I jumped at that, and when Ed chose to leave, the board felt I was the right person to step up and run the larger company,” said Cox. “I’m very excited about it.”

Cox will continue to be based at OnX’s Cleveland office, with frequent visits to Thornhill, Ont. He noted OnX will continue to be based in Thornhill, and three of the top five OnX executives are still based there.
Growing the company both organically and through acquisition will be a priority, said Cox, adding the company is definitely in invest and growth mode. In addition to continuing to grow OnX’s U.S. operations, he said opportunities in Canada as well as Europe – OnX has a UK office – will also be considered.
“(Deals would be) complementary to our existing footprint, business and portfolio,” said Cox.
He did mention he’d like OnX to be stronger in the networking space, to complement its legacy strength in the data centre market.
“Our challenge is getting sales people to represent our broad portfolio in a way that is accurate, correct and good for the customer,” said Cox.
OnX made a major investment in its Canadian business just over a year ago, spending $20 million to upgrade its data centre facilities here to Tier 3 status to target growth opportunities in the cloud and data centre with enterprise clients. It’s already paying dividends, said Cox.
“It’s a profitable business. We had new bookings in the neighborhood of $30 million last year total contract value in Canada, and we’ll do 1.5 times that in orders this year,” said Cox. “It made OnX a force to be reckoned with in Canada.”
It has allowed OnX to grow its managed services business, which Cox said is the fastest growing business for the company in both Canada and the U.S., with clients such as BlackBerry and eHealth Ontario. One strategy for OnX has been going deeper with these large enterprise accounts. Cox plans to complement that this year with an aggressive push in the midmarket.
“We’ll be bringing on new customers that want to look to a major player in the market to have their equipment hosted and managed, and our hope and expectation bringing on those customers for managed services is to be able to step in and sell them hardware and software too, and do the install, integration and professional services,” said Cox. “I think that growth engine for the company will be managed services. We’ll be able to take a complete portfolio to the customer.”
With an aggressive growth strategy, OnX may continue its climb up CDN’s Top 100 rankings next spring. It moved up to from No. 6 in 2011 to No. 5 in 2012.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see us climb up a new notches,” said Cox.

  • Handbags For Hope Raises $5K

Christmas came early this year for Safe Passage, Inc., and several of the families it currently provides services for,Shop discounted mk handbags on hotmkbags. thanks to the generous donations from 115 Ripley County-area businesses as well as the many participants and volunteers for the 2013 “Handbags for Hope” fundraiser.
The June 22 auction, hosted by the Church on the Rock Women’s Ministry, raised $5,000. It featured 129 donated new or gently-used, themed purses, baskets and totes filled with theme-related items and services. Seventy-five people attended the full-day auction event, placing silent bids and ultimately contributing toward this fundraiser. Five thousand dollars was raised during the sale to fund a special “Christmas in July” blessing for these families.
“The first annual Handbags for Hope auction proved to be remarkable. It was well planned and perfectly executed. It was positively amazing,” according to Donna Huffmaster, administrative assistant for Safe Passage. “The food, auction items and presentation were wonderful. We are profoundly grateful to the Women’s Ministry of COTR for helping to support the mission of Safe Passage through this event.”
All proceeds from the June event were earmarked for a “Christmas in July” morning of love and hope for Safe Passage and its women and children. Six families participated in the July 13 private function. They were treated to a ride on the “Christmas Express,” and greeted at the Batesville church with cookies and punch. They then were served a buffet of home-cooked holiday culinary delights, prepared by the women of Church on the Rock, including: turkey, gravy and many of the traditional holiday meal side dishes. Once the meal had ended, everyone gathered in the church sanctuary to sing and then to hear the message of God’s love, shared by Paula Flint, COTR Women’s Ministry Coordinator.
Prior to receiving their gifts, the children were ministered to through a word by COTR Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Heather May. She shared with them God’s greatest gift to us all: Jesus Christ.
Of the proceeds raised, $2,500 was used to purchase Christmas gifts that included much needed items such as school supplies, clothing and other items for the hope of their starting over in a new home with a new beginning,” Flint said. “A $2,500 check also was given to Safe Passage, Inc., for a donation to help sponsor the awesome service they provide for the hundreds of families in the five-county area it serves each year.”
A not-for-profit organization, Safe Passage provides domestic violence intervention and prevention services. Since 2011, the facility has experienced a 55% increase in the number of victims served and a 124% increase in the number of children living in shelter.Shop for Michael Kors Monogram at hotmkbags. “The Handbags for Hope event was very exciting and a tremendous success. We are so grateful to the many businesses and individuals who donated their time, money and love to this amazing event. We look forward to the many ways God will continue to use this opportunity to support these women, children and many others, as Safe Passage continues forward with the incredible services it provides for those in need within our local communities,” Flint added.
“We are excited with the enthusiasm and support that was received for this inaugural event and look forward to the beginning phase for the “Hope Fun-Raising” event again in 2014,” Flint concluded.

  • On the stock market Tuesday

On the stock market Tuesday, it felt like late-summer inertia had already set in.
U.S. stocks wandered between the tiniest of gains and losses before closing mixed. Traders were indecisive as companies reported disparate earnings news, and many were disinclined to make any big moves before getting direction from the Federal Reserve, which is scheduled to release an updated policy statement Wednesday.
The calendar said late July, but on the stock exchange it seemed more like August, when many traders take off for vacation and fewer stocks trade hands.Find a great selection of christian louboutin boots deals ! Click on any of the links below. The Dow Jones industrial average rose as much as 72 points in early trading — less than 0.5 percent — before flickering lower.welcome to replica jewelry web,Free shipping‎! It dipped into the red for most of the afternoon and closed down 1.38 points, or 0.01 percent, at 15,520.59.
"It seems like the doldrums of summer have set in," said Dave Abate, senior wealth adviser at Strategic Wealth Partners in Seven Hills, Ohio.
The Nasdaq composite rose 17.33 points, or 0.5 percent, to 3,616.47, though even that gain was largely because Apple, its biggest component, was up more than 1 percent.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index plodded just a fraction higher, up 0.63 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,685.96. Three of its industry sectors rose, led by technology stocks. Seven fell, dragged down by telecommunications companies.
Company earnings were equally inconclusive. Coach, the maker of upscale handbags, slumped 8 percent after reporting lower quarterly profit. But Goodyear Tire & Rubber jumped 9 percent after announcing that its quarterly earnings had doubled.
This earnings season has presented a picture encouraging on some fronts and troubling on others. Many companies,Find a great selection of Michael Kors Satchel Bags 2013 New Arrival at hotmkbags! including big names like Apple and Visa, have posted better-than-expected results, and analysts predict that second-quarter earnings are up 4.7 percent for companies in the S&P 500, according to S&P Capital IQ. But the picture has its blemishes, including the fact that many of the gains are based not on business growth but on cost-cutting: Revenue is down about 0.5 percent.
"There's a little bit of swapping chairs on the deck,Latest Trends in Wholesale gucci handbags, Wallets and more‎." Abate said.
Outside of earnings reports, traders were keeping a close eye on the Federal Reserve, which began a two-day meeting Tuesday and will release an updated policy statement Wednesday.
Conjectures about the central bank have had a powerful influence on the stock market in recent months. Traders have bought and sold stocks while hanging on to every word of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, looking for clues about when the Fed might pull back on its bond-buying program or start raising interest rates. The central bank has been buying bonds to try to prop up stocks and encourage borrowing. It has also been keeping interest rates low, all in an attempt to pump life into a lagging economy.
"This week it's all about Bernanke and the Fed statement," said Bill Strazzullo, chief strategist of Bell Curve Trading. "Stocks need a supportive statement ... to go higher. That is the key driver."
The Fed has said it might start to pull back on its bond purchases later this year if the economy continues to improve, but the timing remains uncertain.Welcome to Replica Louis Vuitton outlet online store and buy latest replica louis vuitton handbags together with free shipping and best service. The Fed has also said it won't raise its benchmark short-term interest rate until the unemployment rate, which currently stands at 7.6 percent, dips below 6.5 percent.
Crude oil fell $1.47 to $103.08 a barrel in New York. The price of gold inched down $4.80 to $1,324.80 an ounce. The dollar rose against the Japanese yen and fell against the euro.
The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was unchanged from late Monday at 2.60 percent. The yield is a benchmark for many kinds of loans including home mortgages.

  • That’s Right For You

Trail running shoes, the dirty, rugged older brothers of traditional running shoes meant for the road, aren’t all that different from their svelte sibling. In the simplest of terms both are intended to protect the feet; however, running in muddy,Shop cheap christian louboutin shoes, pumps, wedding shoes, sandals with low price in our discount christian louboutin sandals Store online. rocky and uneven terrain requires more protection, which is where trail running shoes separate themselves. Most trail running shoes are designed to address two of a trail runners’ feet protection needs: a more substantial buffer between the foot and the ground, and outsoles (the bottom outermost part of the shoe), which are equipped with deeper lugs or tread patterns to grip the trail and avoid slipping.
RELATED: 2013 Summer Trail Running Shoe Review
David Harkin, owner of the Portland Running Company, and pro ultrarunner Geoff Roes offer tips and advice for your quest to find the perfect trail shoes for your needs.
Will you be running on rugged terrain or groomed trails?
Most recreational trail runners who frequent dirt trails or the occasional rocky path can stick to shoes that are comparable to their road shoes, explains Harkin.
“Unless you are running in very rugged terrain, choosing a trail running shoe that is similar to your road running shoe is best,” Harkin said. Many road running shoe companies make trail shoes that complement a road shoe and are a good choice for road runners looking to occasionally take to the trails because they are protective and durable enough for the trails, yet still comfortable on the road.
RELATED: The Importance Of Varying Your Running Surfaces
“These hybrid shoes are the most successful in store because they are used for more than one application,” Harkin explained. “People might have a mile or two [on the road] to get to the trails. So it is best to buy one shoe that is also a good running shoe so you can run in the city to get to the trail.”
Runners looking to tackle trickier terrain should look for more traction, stability and protection in the outsole, which are characteristic of the shoes many outdoor companies are designing. “Most of the outdoor companies now make trail running shoes, which can be confusing [because of all the options,]” Harkin said. But these options allow runners who will be running on rougher terrain to choose a shoe that complements that environment.
Is it essential to wear trail shoes on the trail?
Wearing trail-specific shoes out in the dirt can make kicking a rock less painful and slick rocks less slippery, but perhaps more essential is overall comfort, explained Roes, one of the most successful ultrarunners in history. “If you have a shoe you love and trust just wear it. I wear trail shoes because I found a pair three years ago and now I wear the same shoes for every run. I found something I really like and I stick with it. I do wear trail-specific shoes but I don’t think they are at all necessary.”
And Harkin agrees. “You have to wear what feels the most comfortable,” he said. Running in Oregon where Harkin lives, the terrain is fairly flat and not too technical, so he is most comfortable in a road shoe. However, when it rains and the ground is wet and muddy he wears trail shoes because they offer a waterproof upper that keeps his feet dry and comfortable.
The comfort of a waterproof trail shoe comes with a price, however. “If you want more traction, stability or more protection you’re also going to get a stiffer and heavier [shoe].All kinds of replica designer handbags in our online store sells at Wholesale price, welcome to buy top quality replica handbags in our online store!!! It’s the trade off,Save on Christian Louboutin Pump! All the Sales, All in One Place.” Harkin explained. “It’s the give and take of a road shoe versus a heavier, clunkier trail shoe.Find a great selection of christian louboutin boots deals ! Click on any of the links below.”
What kind of foot type do you have?
If you aren’t familiar with your foot type—neutral, supportive, or control—Harkin advises you to get a gait analysis at a specialty running store, and use the same approach to finding trail shoes as road shoes. “It’s really important to identify your running characteristics and apply that to a trail running shoe,” Harkin said. “If you have tremendous support needs you still need that on the trails.”
The trend for trail runners right now is to wear a more minimally constructed shoe, but Harkins cautions new trail runners against this. “If you have tremendous support needs [on the road] you still need that on the trails,” he explained. “Don’t traipse off in really light trail shoes and think you’re going to be fine. There are numerous diversified high heels at christian louboutin shoes for sale.”
How far will you be running?
If trail running translates to ultrarunning then you will likely be spending a lot of time in trail running shoes. After a few hours your feet will swell slightly and a half size or a full size of extra room in the shoe is necessary. “My body has made adaptations and my feet don’t swell unless I run for three days straight, but I still wear a full size bigger to accommodate the swelling, and warmer socks,” Roes said. “Now, after 100 miles my feet look exactly the same after, but I couldn’t say the same thing a few years ago.”
