Surgery isn't an option at this point, said Helm, as doctors haven't pinpointed the root cause of the problem.

"I've settled down a little bit, being able to watch now and not be too upset," Helm said. "When things get a little rough and guys are getting cheap-shot is when I really get upset and I want to be out there."

What a difference this second-round series has been compared to the opening round against Anaheim. Playing the Ducks, the Red Wings were forced to travel three times to the West Coast in what turned out to be a seven-game series. And the teams played every other day.

Not so against Chicago. The teams have had two days off between Games 1 and 2 and this week in Games 3 and 4.
