A recent question from Babette, a reader from Davison, has generated quite a few emails to Average Josephine's inbox. She was looking for an affordable way to repair the heels of her shoes. Here's what Average Josephine's readers had to say:

Dear Average Josephine: My name is Tim Goodrich, and I'm responding to your Davison reader's question about shoe repair. I recently returned from Philadelphia, where I learned the craft of making custom-made (or bespoke) shoes.

About three months ago, I opened a shop in downtown Flint, where I make and repair shoes. It actually is located only a couple doors down from the MLive building on Buckham Alley.

Anyway, I can't answer your reader's question without a little more information on what kind of boots she has and what she means by "covering." I'd be happy to take a look at her boots and show her where she can order what she needs, or repair them myself for a very reasonable price (likely considerably less than $50) if that's what she'd prefer.

Dear Tim: Thank you so much for your response.

Dear Average Josephine: I read your column in the Muskegon Chronicle. When we need our shoes repaired, we take them to Troyer's, an Amish store five miles west of Fremont. He also has repaired a couple of my leather purses. Not an expensive place to go, and he is honest about telling you if he can repair something or not.
