Charisma is one word that might come to mind when you first meet Adrian Davis.

He’s friendly and engaging, sure, but it takes a certain kind of confidence for a young pastor to pair a classic dark suit with magenta shoes and a chevron-striped pocket square.

Describe your style.

“It’s out of the box. I don’t like to fit in the traditional mold. I like to push the envelope with colors that other people probably wouldn’t put together. Right now the trend is pushing the envelope as far as patterns. Matchy-matchy is not in. So me, I like to be out of the box: colored pants, stuff like that.”

Who are your style icons?

“If I see it, I like it, I’m going to wear it; it’s just that simple to me. Do you have a favorite item in your closet?“I don’t know if I have a favorite one item. I start off with shoes. I’m a shoe fanatic. When I think about what I’m going to wear, I start from the shoes up. Most people start with their clothes and then picks their shoes; I start from the bottom.”

What are your favorite stores or brands?“I mix brands. It’s one of those things where if I see it and I like it, I’m going to get it.“I think I bring energy to the brand. It can be off brand, no brand. So I can wear something from Wal-Mart and somebody could ask, ‘Where’d you get that?’ I’d say ‘Wal-Mart’ and they might not believe it.“As far as dress shoes go, I love Cole Haan. What’s your style philosophy?

“I think style is your own confidence that people can see. Even being pastor of a church, there are certain things I wear that my church (members) are like, ‘Pastor I really like that, but you are the only one I could see pulling it off.’

“But I think what has allowed our church to grow so rapidly is that I’ve been comfortable being me. That’s what your style is, being comfortable being you. This generation always talks about ‘swag,’ and that’s what swag is: confidence in what you have on. Just be comfortable being you. "We've done very well there," he said.
