Almost everyone will have a wedding bridesmaids and groomsmen. They are very special work, traditionally carried out specific responsibilities. It knows how important those responsibilities are, whether you are the bride who decides who you honor as your honor, or be asked to fill in a key role at the wedding. This guide will tell you in the role of bridesmaids and groomsmen.

As the bride's chief attendant, the maid of honor has a few more duties than the rest of the bridesmaids. While the other women do not have to do much more than show up looking pretty in their bridesmaid jewelry and dresses, the maid of honor has more to do. Before the wedding, she is the one to whom the bride will turn for help with selecting maid of honor dresses and bridesmaid jewelry, picking out flowers, and calming her pre-wedding nerves. If there is going to be a bridal shower, the maid of honor will often be the one to organize it (although this is not mandatory). The maid of honor might also try to arrange for a group wedding gift from all of the bridesmaids, and if there is a bachelorette party, she will probably be the one to plan it.

On the day of the wedding, the maid of honor has some very important things to do. She may well be the one to help the bride get dressed before the ceremony. During the ceremony, the maid of honor will hold the bride's bouquet during the ring exchange. She will also be the one to straighten out the bride's train at the end of the ceremony, so that it flows nicely behind her for the recessional. Sometimes the maid of honor holds the groom's ring to hand to the bride for the ring exchange portion of the ceremony, or the best man may hold both wedding rings in one box (which is often easier, given the lack of pockets in most bridesmaid dresses).

The best man also has an important role to fill, and the ideal candidate is someone who can be trusted with responsibilities. This many be why it is customary for the groom's father to be the best man in some circles. In the months leading up to the wedding, the best man will be the one to organize some sort of bachelor party. It is also his job to make sure that the groom shows up on time and sober on the morning of the wedding! The best man should also take the lead in keeping all of the other groomsmen on schedule for tuxedo rentals, travel arrangements, and so forth. It is his job to keep the troops in line.

The most important thing that the best man will do on the day of the wedding is hold the wedding bands. He can either carry just the ring which the groom will give to the bride, or both wedding rings. At the appointed time, he hands the rings to the bride and groom for the ring exchange. The best man and maid of honor may also be asked to serve as official witnesses and to sign the marriage license. During the wedding reception, the best man starts off the speeches by giving the first toast to the newlyweds. The bride's honor attendant may follow with the second toast, although she is not required to speak.

So you see that the maid of honor and best man are very important jobs, indeed! Without them, the bride and groom would be less feted, less organized, and probably a lot less relaxed. Choose your honor attendants carefully, because they will become a very special part of your wedding celebration.
