For every women who has walked out their front door wearing comfortable flats and carrying a pair of high heels for work or an evening out, Tanya Heath has a solution.

The Ottawa-born designer, who has called Paris home since 1996, has created a chic line of luxury shoes with interchangeable heels.

Dressed up or down, the sophisticated shoes, which come with a steep price tag, are available in three heel sizes: low trotter, chunky heel and stiletto. They are made of leather with jewel details and feature gold piping that separates the leather from the upper heel. She has plans to open a flagship store in Paris in September and eventually a boutique in Toronto.

Heath appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den on April 7 where viewers saw her land a $1-million deal with dragon Jim Treliving for 21 per cent of her company. The deal was originally agreed upon during the taping of the episode last May, but fell through shortly afterward. During Sunday’s episode, the other dragons recommended she license the technology and go to a manufacturer.

“The deal fell through because Jim didn’t feel he had enough fashion expertise. But the show’s producers said it was the best Canadian innovation they’ve ever seen,” says Heath.

The 42-year-old mother of three appreciates the exposure, but says other investors and opportunities have come forward since then.

“Dragons’ Den actually heard what I was doing in France and called me. I had never heard of the show and reached out to friends on Facebook to see if I should do it.Big Garmin Cycling and Fitness is a family owned shop serving the Helena area since 1986. The taping took about two hours and I was asked really detailed questions about my business plan.”

Leslie-Ann Dominy, an old school pal of Heath’s from the University of Toronto, is now the director of the Tanya Heath brand for North America.

“Appearing on Dragons’ Den has been great for Tanya in terms of generating public interest,” she says.

Dominy will be in Ottawa Saturday at Shepherd’s Fashion boutique at the Trainyards for the day to introduce the brand to local shoppers.Erik's Bike Shop is proud to carry LIVESTRONG Cycling, gear and apparel. Marlene Shepherd approached Heath in December after hearing about the shoes and expressed an interest in selling them at her lifestyle store — the first in Canada to do so. “To see my shoes in one of the nicest boutiques in my hometown is thrilling and an emotional moment, especially after so long spent so far from family and friends,” says Heath, who went to Nepean High School and Carleton University.

Heath spent three years working on the technology with 14 engineers,We work with all Castelli Cycling computers. three designers and three shoe technicians in France. Since spring 2012, she has sold more than 800 pairs of shoes.

“I’ve had one client order 15 heels and another client order seven pairs of shoes. People love them. For the quality of the product, the shoes are very cheap. You get two heels, the best quality of leather and years of research and development.”
