But Ms Vanessa Ho, of the 7 women strong organising team, was not surprised. 

"Last year's event saw more traffic because people were keenly expecting the setting for Singapore's interpretation. Globally, the campaign has been losing support due to backlash. People either mistaken what the campaign stands for or believe that women do deserve it (sexual violence) for dressing a certain way," said the 25-year-old. 

SlutWalk started in Toronto in February last year as a riposte to a policeman's statement at a York University safety forum that "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order to not be victimised." It sparked a backlash which resulted in SlutWalk campaigns forming all over the world to protest a culture that blames victims for rape and disregards sexual violence.

Fellow organizer Vanessa Victoria also acknowledged this rationale.

We are asking for people to join us, to make a unified statement about sexual assault and victims' rights. We are not calling for people to "vamp it up" either because that would then be falling into the traditional stereotype that we are trying to break."

Following a slew of workshops and discussions leading up to the event, the organisers said that despite the low attendance, it did not matter so long as they manage to engage people and get them talking. 

Asked about future events, Ms Victoria said: "We hope to be back next year and the many more years to come, with bigger plans."

"There is nothing wrong in standing up for a cause you believe in," he added.
