Lafayette 148 New York is a brand synonymous with style, sophistication and elegant cuts and fabrics. We caught up with Edward Wilkerson, the designer of the women's luxury retail line before his appearance Thursday at Neiman Marcus in Boca Raton. Here's what the effervescent designer had to say about his flair for photography, the latest must-have items in his collection and why he loves coming to Neiman Marcus at Town Center at Boca Raton.

What are some must-have trends from Lafayette 148 New York's latest collection?

"Color is a big trend this season. The Best moncler jackets for sale White Mens will meet your satisfaction! Magenta,The Canada Goose Yorkville Parka was originally developed for scientists working in research facilities in Antarctica. lime green and yellow are hot. I like pairing those pieces with fresh white and bold artistic prints. It's not just a floral print. We've added more of a brush stroke for an artistic element."

How would you define the style and silhouettes of Lafayette 148?

"I always try to mix feminine with masculine. It's a balance. I really like texture. Lately I'm liking linen, but with a more wrinkled than defined look. I'm trying to develop a linen jacket that has more of a sweater feel. We also have so many great cotton jackets and windbreakers in beautiful, soft cotton that always look so flattering on. Our leather looks have also been very strong with beautiful stitching."

Is offering a variety of fashion for petite, plus size and tall sizes something that's important to you and why?

"It's something that has always been important to me. We've always dressed women of all sizes with this brand. It's something we could never imagine not doing."

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

"I get inspiration from traveling or seeing someone walk down the street. You never know where that inspiration comes from. It could come from a trip to Florida or a tropical island. I'm constantly thinking about what I've done in the past and what worked or didn't. Looking back is always a good place to start."

What do you take away from interacting with fans of your line at in-store events?

"It means so much to me when a customer says they feel good in our clothes. I also enjoy taking the customer shoe and bag shopping to complete the look.Shop the latest collection of monster beats cheap from the most popular stores . And I always tell customers 'I cut from a size 0 to a 24,Discover the largest collection of duvetica jackets for women. so you're in there somewhere!' The last time I came to Neiman Marcus in Boca we literally had a party in the dressing room. I brought champagne and basically the whole line into the dressing room for my customers to have fun with it. I always have the best time when I'm there."

When you're not designing, what do you enjoy doing?

"I'm constantly working on my photography to do a book. I just came back from a long trip to Europe. I've been working on this book for about 20 years. People always ask me why it's not finished yet. It's because I haven't been to all the places I wanted to go yet. I'm making it a fashion-inspired guide as well. I've been to the Sahara and Morocco a lot.The best online shop for sale the hot sell Canada Goose Womens Resolute. My Canon EOS-7D is like passing a magic wand over whatever you're photographing. What celebrities have worn your line?
"Oprah has worn our line. We did about eight covers for her magazine."

The Senior Lawyers Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association on March 20 will stage a program entitled, “Frozen in Time: Riots in Los Angeles—Lessons Learned and Progress Made.”

Anthony De Los Reyes of Pocrass & De Los Reyes LLP is putting together the panel discussion and will moderate it. De Los Reyes is a member of the section’s Executive Committee and a former member of the Los Angeles Police Commission.

Panelists will be Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck. former Los Angeles Times city editor Bill Boyarsky, Ninth U.S. Circuit United States Court of Appeals Judge Raymond C. Fisher, and civil rights activist Constance L. Rice of the law firm of English Munger & Rice.

The history of Los Angeles includes a number of racial conflicts that have erupted into violence.

On Wednesday, August 11, 1965, two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers saw a car make a wide turn. An African American motorist pulled up alongside the patrolmen and reported that the driver of the car was drunk. This incident set in motion a series of events that escalated into what became known as the Watts Riots.

Six days later, 34 people, including 25 African Americans, had died, more than 1,000 people were injured, 600 buildings were damaged or destroyed, and there was an estimated $400 million in property damage. Rioters looted stores, set fires, and beat innocent bystanders. The riots were not quelled until the National Guard was sent out.

. 1991, a videotape was made of a young African American man being beaten by LAPD officers. When the videotape hit the news, the city was poised for another crisis. The four LAPD officers were acquitted by a Simi Valley jury in April 1992 and the City of Los Angeles again erupted into riots and flames. In six days, 53 people were killed, more than 2,000 were injured, and property damage exceeded $2 billion.

Lost Battalions has the widest range of waffen ss uniforms items available since 1945. It is now been more than twenty years since the 1992 riots and almost fifty years since the Watts riots in 1965. No homage. No reverence. It was Grunge.

Mussed-up hair, black eyeliner, flat strapped boots. mohair cardigan, slung-on dress. That was the first look that pounded out to hard-core electric guitar which turned out to be Tidal wave ‘13 by Thee Oh Sees. recorded on the road in Australia and Asia.

Hedi Slimane brought Californian Grunge to the Saint Laurent catwalk this evening at the Grand Palais in Paris. And it didn't come out of the Yves Saint Laurent archives, as it did last season. It came out of Hedi Slimane and his Los Angeles heartland and home. And also the spirit of the times? Just as Yves Saint Laurent tapped into the mood of the moment, reflected the shifts in women's independence and liberation – with the trouser suit, leather jacket and many more, all of which were shockingly new at the time – was Slimane not reflecting the current status quo? Here was the rebel, with all her teen spirit, angst and energy. The fashion equivalent of angry youth if ever there was one, reflecting an age of mass unemployment, greedy bankers, recession,This ss uniform features heavy field wool. religious and political unrest? Just think of all the punk shows we have seen this season – and there was punk here, too, with the ripped denim. studded boots and general air of anarchy.

However, Grunge on the catwalk isn't new. The last time we saw it march down a catwalk was in 1992 with Marc Jacobs' seminal Grunge collection for Perry Ellis. That was shockingly new. It got him fired. This collection for Saint Laurent, was neither shocking, nor will it see the back of Hedi Slimane. Far from it. But the designer is certainly asking for a different customer, his kind of customer. There they all were on the front row: Alison Mosshart (herself very Grunge with blonde-pink hair), Jamie Hince, Lou Doillon, Sky Ferrara, Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Chastain and Garrett Hedlund.

Of course, if you deconstruct these outfits, you'll find sharp pinstripe suits, biker jackets, slim-line coats and bustier dresses in black leather, a leopard print coat, a charcoal pea coat – all at the heart of the Saint Laurent DNA. What you will also find are slouchy mohair cardigans, sweet floral-printed tea dresses with white collars and black sequinned bows, knitted scarves, women and kids. oversized tartan shirts, a black wool or patchworked fur cape, a crystal studded dress (and matching fishnet tights), a silver slip dress, a web of lace dress. The permutations were endless.

Was this a brilliant collection? Yes. It defined the moment. Will it sell? Probably, very well. Is Hedi Slimane turning Saint Laurent into a modern woman's go-to brand? If you're cool enough.

The Paris collections are giving women — and anyone who monitors fashion as closely as the Vatican and the N.F.L. draft — a lot to obsess over. That's quite a change from Milan, where many of us were wishing the Italians could get their shows done in fewer days. (When people are discussing the schedule, and not the clothes, you know there's a problem.)

Here in Paris, I'm impressed that so many designers are conveying emotions in their shows. First Dior and Lanvin, women and kids. which channeled a woman at ease with herself, wrapped up in her thoughts. (I wasn't wild about the dresses with sleeves tied in front, but they sure conveyed the idea of hugging oneself.)

Riccardo Tisci's show on Sunday evening for Givenchy was very affecting. The singer Antony Hegarty, a friend of the designer, performed with an orchestra as the models circled a semidark space. He began with “You Are My Sister,” and one of the other songs was “Cripple and the Starfish.” All too often, Why Choose german uniforms? a live musical performance and a robotic bunch of models in clothes, however interesting, refuse to jell. But Mr. Tisci seemed eager this season to return to the themes he likes and present them with as much precision and feeling as possible. There was almost a sense of homecoming in the show (the circular runway), though without sentimentalism, and of a still-young designer contemplating his journey in fashion.

Certainly he had a firm grasp of the Givenchy woman, a layered personality with plenty of grit. The dusky floral and paisley prints, and the flounced skirts tinged with blood red. were gypsy references that have surfaced in Mr. Tisci's designs before, but rarely with such harmony. Some of the outfits came with a leather piece that looked like a biker jacket stripped of shoulders and sleeves, and converted into a zippered corset, which peeled away from the body. It teased with the idea of texture and deconstruction — and it was also a tease. I also liked the surprising use of boyish plaid in the midst of all those flounces and Victorian looking florals.

Like Phoebe Philo of Céline, Mr. Tisci showed a contemporary version of the ultra-feminine trumpet skirt. And he returned to his sweatshirt, now elongating them and adding screen prints or crystals on chiffon versions. Those were exceptional with paisley silk skirts.

We're all about geezer style for the young guy and if the recent Fall 2013 fashion shows proved one thing, it's that the old man aesthetic isn't going anywhere. One geezer style detail, the elbow patch. is something we've increasingly seen on brand new goods, taking what is basically a piece meant to repair worn-out jacket arms and turning it into a style statement. Guys wanting to get the look without spending a lot need look no further than our friends at hook+ALBERT. Starting today, the company is launching a line of handsome patches in suede, and patterned wool that are perfect for amping up any sports coat or sweater, regardless if it's falling actually apart. Go tonal or stand out with a dusty hue on a charcoal blazer but whatever you do, make sure you don't give a damn about what anyone else thinks -- because that's the hallmark of true geezer style.

I was on an NJ Transit train the other day and noticed a mother and three children sitting across from me, each with a suitcase at their feet.

They got off at the Newark Airport stop in a flurry. Coats on, cellphones tucked away, suitcases lugged down the aisle. They were chatting happily.
They left and the doors closed. It was then I noticed a pair of fuzzy pink mittens on the seat. The littlest girl had left them.

My heart went out to that little girl,2012 Canada Goose Mountaineer Jacket er Hot salg på vår nettbutikk, alle produkt spare opptil 50% off For den beste varme i 2012. as I imagined her at Newark, standing in the cold without her mittens.

Would she be upset when she realized they were missing? Would the girl’s mother be understanding, or would she throw her arms up because this was something the kid always did? I thought about that child for the rest of my ride.

Something must have been in the air that day, because strangely, I witnessed several other “left behinds.”
At a fast food place, a pretty scarf was left in a booth. Then, in a restroom, a lady came out of a stall holding a cellphone. “Did anyone lose this?” she asked all the women at the sink.

I’ve lost/left behind many items in my life, some more upsetting than others. Sweaters, hats and umbrellas all have gone into that land of oblivion.

Earrings — don’t get me started on that one. It’s the reason why I never spend a lot of money on jewelry.

One time I even left a restaurant and realized, shockingly, that I had left my pocketbook, with money, credit cards, not to mention Tic Tacs, inside. Luckily, the bag was found and retrieved intact.

I have even accidentally left my ATM card IN the ATM.
Probably the worst was when the diamond in my engagement ring fell out, never to be found (at least by me). It’s a sinking feeling when you’ve lost something that’s precious to you.

Of course, mittens are not as sentimental as a diamond engagement ring, but I sure hope that little girl had another pair tucked in her jacket.

Or, at least, I hope they were going somewhere warm.

'RUN ED RUN' ALSO RESTARTS: Katy Tang's appointment to District 4 (Sunset) Supervisor is safer than lefty Planning Commissioner Christina Olague appointed as Supervisor in anti-Mayor Ed Lee and very progressive District 5 (Haight-Ashbury/Hayes Valley). This Canada Goose Chateau Parka Orange has generous appearance that make you look fashion and attractive in the crowd. Tang's an aide to popular Carmen Chu – twice elected in District 4 where Mayor easily outpolled crowded 2011 mayoral field with 43% of vote. But Tang needs to face election herself in 8 months in Nov. 2013 to serve out remaining supervisor term as does her mentor and Assessor-Recorder Chu. Then she needs to win four-year term in Nov. 2014 on what's considered safe mayoral and Chinese American turf.

A loss (Tang or Chu) casts doubt in Mayor Lee's own 2015 re-election prospects… The Tang election campaign started already with Mayor's press release accentuating her Sunset ties (lifelong resident and Lowell High grad), family advocacy, budget mastery and small business credentials for one of SF's most conservative and APA supervisor districts. Gearing up for her by securing major endorsements and raising significant money now helps preempt potential challengers…

LOFTUS RUN: Runner-up for appointment and Police Commissioner Suzy Loftus got early support for a future run – supervisor in 2013 or 2014 or another office. Loftus has strong ties to State Attorney General Kamala Harris and women's community (including members of the SF Democratic Party central committee) seeing her as potential pro-mom appointment on a board with only 4 single women among 11 supervisors. She doesn't have much time to contemplate a run like College Board member Julie Tang who lost a 1986 appointment bid to Tom Hsieh (father of SF Democratic Party treasurer Tom A. Hsieh). Strong support gave Julie Tang the green light to run for a citywide supervisor seat she barely lost…STILL A PRO: Kudos for Francis Tsang, also getting support for the appointment. Tsang still loyally carried out his duties as Mayor's deputy press spokesman including sending out the Katy Tang announcement – proving he would have also supported the mayor's agenda if appointed…

ENTANGLING ALLIANCES: Like Mayor Gavin Newsom's appointment of Carmen Chu in 2007, new District 4 (Sunset) Supervisor Tang doesn't have strong allegiances to any SF political factions. She doesn't risk alienating community factions or powerbrokers like Chinese Chamber of Commerce's Rose Pak, venture tech capitalist John Conway, California Democratic Party Chair John Burton,2012 Canada Goose Mountaineer Jacket er Hot salg på vår nettbutikk, alle produkt spare opptil 50% off For den beste varme i 2012. SF Democratic Party or former Mayor Willie Brown…SAFE LEE VOTE: By selecting Tang, the Mayor minimizes repeat of appointee Christina Olague opposing his 2012 ouster of suspended SF Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi. RULE SOFTLY BUT CARRY A BIGGEST STICK: Filipina American carries the biggest gavel – overseeing largest judicial branch in world – California's 58 Superior Courts, six Courts of Appeal, one Supreme Court, 2000 jurors, 18,000 employees, 532 buildings and 19 million square feet. Priceless… Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye told a Public Policy Institute of California audience last week, “Pull out your microscope…we are a 1.2% sliver of the general fund” that's down to $3.2 billion after $1 billion in cuts for the last five years. “An incredible bargain,” she said, considering California's courts don't just get nickeled and dimed. They receive one penny out of every general fund dollar while bearing the same caseload as courthouses shutdown in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. “We are looking at the dismemberment of the judicial branch,” said Cantil-Sakauye, chair of policymaking Judicial Council of California…

Move over Liz and Dick. Wednesday saw a different example of the marriage of British elegance to ostrich-feathered ostentation. This one came courtesy of Dries Van Noten, who managed to extract the volatility of the original while keeping it utterly captivating.

Van Noten wasn't thinkiPages in category "Canada Goose Trillium Parka".ng of Hollywood marriage per se (he did reference another on-screen union — Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers — with a wacky take on his soundtrack of “Cheek to Cheek”). Yet he absolutely intended a collection of extremes. Perhaps after spring's grown-up grunge session, Van Noten decided to focus on mannish tailoring in precise cuts, outsized proportions and traditional fabrics.

“And what's really the opposite of men's wear is the exaggerated women's wear,” he said during a preview. “For me, I think about ice-skating. The diamond embellishment is there, the stones are always just a little bit bigger, the decoration is often feathers and fringes. It's kind of the women's wear invading the men's elements in the collection. The Canada Goose Constable Parka is a stylish down jacket made in Canada.”

Van Noten announced said invasion from the first look out, an amply proportioned coat with explosive red and gold embroidery down one side, belted in a skinny strip of crystals and worn over gray trousers. He continued on with the tailoring — a twist on the three-piece suit, here a jacket over skirt over pants; trompe l'oeil dresses that appeared to be layered pieces. With the British wools as his base, the designer sometimes introduced rich, pale brocades into the mix. Almost every look bore some fusion of masculine and feminine: the austerity of a jacket and pants interrupted by an all-over fringed chemise; the collegiate dash of a big, striped sweater countered with an embroidered velvet skirt. Another sweater look — slouchy dark gray knit over a tiered, tailored skirt — got its girly glow from a giant “diamond” brooch placed on the hip.

As for the feathers, they made their first sparse (though hardly discreet) appearance as here-and-there wisps fastened with crystals to a gray men's coat. And then they grew and grew, into airy borders and full-frontal froth — in one case, we're talking bright coral over yellow froth. But vulgar? Not a chance. It's part of Van Noten's particular genius that he can turn elements as potentially frightening as those of a gussied-up,Buy the most favourable Canada Goose Mystique Parka Spirit Mens light weight quick drying Karen Millen Dresses. glitzed-out skating outfit into a thing of beauty.

While The Wedding Shop was nothing more than a lightweight piece of television it was enjoyable nonetheless thanks mainly to Marg and Jane who were both delightful characters. The Canada Goose Langford Parka held the heat in for miss Romijn, and it will do the same for you. Marg described herself as being incredibly nosy but at the same time seemed to be a calming influence and loved talking about how little her own wedding day cost when compared to the prices today's brides have to pay.

Jane meanwhile seemed like the more manic of the pair and talked about how she was married as she had 'been there,Womens Canada Goose Kensington Parka Hyacinth. done that and bought the dress' but now appeared to enjoy living vicariously through the brides that came through the doors of Confetti and Lace. In fact I would've liked to have seen more of Marg and Jane mainly because I felt that the three separate wedding stories were too much for one 45 minute episode. Indeed the most intriguing story, that of long-time loves Natasha and Ches, was given the least amount of time while I was also annoyed that we never discovered whether or not Jo's parents decided to attend her vow renewal ceremony.

Ultimately it appeared to me as if The Wedding Shop was almost a pilot episode to see if people would accept a full series of this programme and I think if the ratings are good then we could see more from Confetti and Lace on our TV screens in the near future. If it does return I would like to see the show focus on the staff members rather than the brides and maybe just feature one wedding per episode rather than three. If The Wedding Shop does return and these changes are made then I can see it being just as successful as the other wedding-related programmes as it has enough going for it to be another bride-centric hit.

The Killers' early career was a story of triumph piled upon triumph. But the Las Vegas band has stumbled with comeback album Battle Born, a hodge-podge of '80s new wave and Springsteen pastiche (when cloaking yourself in Bruce iconography it is essential you do so competently or risk looking like a tribute act).

Following nearly a decade of jet-fuelled success, suddenly the question was unavoidable: had Brandon Flowers and company run dry of ideas?

If they are a group in crisis, at the O2 they do a useful job concealing it. Striding on with the house lights up, frontman Flowers in rock-god uniform of leather jacket and quiff, the quartet leap into 'Mr Brightside', their 2004 break-out hit. Gleefully silly, the tune asserts all of The Killers strengths, not least Flowers' way with a chorus and his ability to simultaneously project cocksureness and vulnerability (it helps immensely that he has abandoned his long-running, cool-obviating obsession with droopy, Old West moustaches).

As the venue is belatedly plunged into darkness, The Killers do a convincing job balancing Battle Born highlights – there are a few,Stay warm and in style during the winter moths with the Canada Goose Expedition Parka . you begin to realise – and catalogue favourites. On record, it is true,I compare two pairs of cheap monster beats headphones by dre in ear tour headphones. even their best stuff comes off as faintly second rate, someone else's moves retrofitted to square with The Killers' stadium pomp. With Flowers giving off neutron-star levels of charisma, in the flesh, however, the relatively lumpen likes of 'Somebody Told Me' and 'Miss Atomic Bomb' soar, their innate clunkiness papered over by The Killers' bombast.

There's a surprise halfway through as the four piece, swelled by a pair of auxiliary guitarists, delivers a snatch of U2's 'With Or Without You' (this is a piece of shtick – in Belfast the previous evening they attempted Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl') and an even bigger surprise as Flowers stops the show while the bouncers clear a ruck in the mosh-pit (a god-fearing Mormon, Flowers seems genuinely offended by the violence). The Canada Goose Heli-Arctic Parka keeps you incredibly warm without puffing you up.

The Killers' finest moment, the 'Born to Run'-esque 'When You Were Young', smoothes the ruffles left by a ham-fisted take on 'From Here On Out' after the stand-out track on Battle Born is reduced to a knotty back and forth with the crowd.

A burnished hunk of Americana, 'When You Were Young', is a reminder that Flowers and chums can reach into their store of influences and retrieve something substantial. But with songs from Battle Born coming off as watery by comparison, you can't help wonder whether, a decade in, the bag of tricks is finally empty.

The teenager is described as white, of average height and build with a scabby complexion,Discover the largest collection of duvetica jackets for women. The Canada Goose Yorkville Parka was originally developed for scientists working in research facilities in Antarctica. and was wearing dark tracksuit bottoms, a black puffer jacket and trainers.

After attempting to snatch the bag he ran off towards the town centre.

The singer, 24, has been recording in New York for the past few days after making a stunning appearance at the BRITs last week.

And her New York wardrobe has been just as impressive, with the star stepping out in skinny jeans, a red jacket and red shoes, wearing minimal makeup but still looking gorgeous.

His head shrouded by a sports hoodie, the young man walked unnoticed through a bustling crowd outside the gates of the Olympic village in London last year. When he got close, I saw a familiar face smiling at me.

It was Oscar Pistorius. “Gerald!” he called and then raised both hands for a double high-five greeting followed by a hug. The Canada Goose Yorkville Parkawas originally developed for scientists working in research facilities in Antarctica.

On Feb. 14, I saw Pistorius in a hood again, and this time he stared straight at the ground, hands thrust into the pockets of a grey sports jacket. He was flanked by officers as he left a police station. Hours earlier, he'd been charged with killing his girlfriend.

It is hard to reconcile the easygoing, charismatic man I interviewed on several occasions with the man accused of premeditated murder in the shooting of Reeva Steenkamp in his South African home. Prosecutors painted him as a man prone to anger and violence, though he had no prior criminal record. The Olympian says he shot Steenkamp by mistake,I compare two pairs of cheap monster beats headphones by dre in ear tour headphones. thinking she was a nighttime intruder, while prosecutors allege he intentionally shot her after the couple argued.

Who is Oscar Pistorius? I thought I had some idea, and in a sense, so did the millions around the world who cheered the double-amputee athlete as a symbol of determination over adversity.

Now he is as much of a mystery as whatever happened in his home in the early hours of Valentine's Day.

My meeting with Pistorius in London was one of several in the three years I have been covering his remarkable story for The Associated Press, from South Africa to Italy to London — and last week to Courtroom C on the first floor of the red-bricked and grey-walled Pretoria Magistrate's Court in the South African capital.

On reflection, Pistorius' narrative is partly an exploration of how hard it is to truly know someone who lives so much in the public eye. Journalists witnessed or heard reports of occasional flashes of anger — with hindsight, do they loom as potentially more meaningful? At the time the outbursts passed largely unnoticed.

What I do know is that the public Pistorius seemed to have a soft spot.

Weeks before his debut at the Olympics, he stopped an interview with me to talk to a little girl who walked up to give him a strawberry from the gardens of the rural hotel at his training base in Gemona, in northern Italy.

“Oscar, Oscar,” the little girl said, holding out the berry.Stay warm and in style during the winter moths with the Canada Goose Expedition Parka . Behind her, a woman called the child away to stop her from bothering Pistorius.

“Ciao, baba. The Canada Goose Heli-Arctic Parka keeps you incredibly warm without puffing you up. Grazie,” Pistorius replied with a smile, unfazed by the interruption,Discover the largest collection of duvetica jackets for women. showing off his Italian and pretending to eat the strawberry.

“She brings me something to eat every night,” he told me delightedly, pointing up to the windows of his hotel room.

Now the world knows Pistorius owns a 9 mm Parabellum pistol, licensed for self-defence, and that he applied for licenses to own six more guns — listed for his private collection — weeks before the shooting death of Steenkamp.

His relationships with women have been spread over the gossip pages in South Africa.

We spoke about his running, his love of sneakers and nice clothes but also about his history with fast cars and motorbikes and the high-speed boat crash in 2009 that left him in a serious condition in the hospital with head wounds. He conceded that the crash caused him to rethink how he lived.

“I just realized that I need to make some changes and some of them need to be with my lifestyle,” Pistorius told me last year in that interview in northern Italy. “I was messing around a lot with motorbikes and just playing around and taking unnecessary risks.”

Again with hindsight, was he grappling with anything deeper than just the high spirits and penchant for thrills of many young men flushed with success and money to burn?

Covering Pistorius' track career, he became more comfortable with me, remembering my name and shouting it when he would see me among a pack of journalists.

During his Olympic preparations in Italy, Pistorius pulled out his cellphone to show me pictures of his bleeding leg stumps, rubbed raw from the friction of pounding around the track on his blades.

It was around the time when people were again questioning whether he should be allowed to run in the 400 metres against able-bodied athletes. The message in showing these graphic photos was: Do you still think I have an unfair advantage?

Until that moment, I hadn't fully realized what Pistorius went through every time he slipped on his prosthetic blades to compete or train. Not many people had, I guess.
