Organizers reported 50 coats and three blankets were collected recently to fulfill an area need.

Dr. Gary Stewart,2012 Garmin Cycling Components. of Resurgens Orthopaedics, and Orthopaedic South Surgical Center recently teamed up for their fourth annual coat and blanket drive, benefiting Haven House Inc.

“It helps us a lot,” said Marjorie Lacy, the executive director of Haven House.

The nonprofit organization provides a safe haven for battered women and their children.

“We are basically an emergency shelter, so new people are constantly coming in,” she said.Find RadioShack Cycling and running devices, heart rate monitors . “At this time of year,Great discounts on our huge range of Specialized Cycling clothing - shorts, jerseys, jackets & more. they’re all coming in without a jacket. They flee their homes generally, so they don’t really bring much.”

Lacy said the shelter has provided refuge to roughly 600 women and children already this year. She said the shelter likely will serve another 150 women and children over the course of the winter.

Stewart, who practices at the Resurgens offices in McDonough and Morrow, said he is pleased with the charity drive.

“This time of year many people want to do something kind for others but aren’t sure how,” Stewart said. “The coat drive is a great opportunity for people to help out.”

Haven House was founded 12 years ago to provide food, shelter, transportation, medical needs and relocation resources to the women and their children. But the needs go beyond food and shelter.

Lacy said a lesser known need that remains consistent is new underwear and socks for the women and children the organization serves.

“Ultimate teams share with each other. Ultimate athletes recognize their gifts and share outside their ego that makes them great. You need a strong ego to be a great player. But it can’t be all about you. That’s the paradox of team sports.

“Each time a basketball player makes a good pass on the court, you are executing a service project for your teammates.”

His players now realize there can be more to the holidays than Frosty, Rudolph and Jingle Bells.

“This helps us realize how lucky we are,” Rogowski said. “It makes me thankful for my family and how blessed I am. It shows the significance of sharing and how grateful people are.”

And what might Santa be bringing for good, little student-athletes like Megan and Chanise?

“I asked for black boots---mid-calf---and a new wallet,” Rogowski said with a laugh. “And one other thing---a Keurig Coffee Brewer. That would be great to have in my room.”

M&S and John Lewis will today take the unprecedented step of shifting their online sales forward to Christmas Eve as competition among retailers intensifies.

Online sales have crept forward in recent years as the number of consumers searching for bargains over Christmas has exploded.

Christmas Day has been the main battleground in recent years but this year M&S will begin discounting at midday today.

It has bought "Christmas Eve sales" search advertising slots on Google in an attempt to draw online consumers along with an array of other terms shoppers are likely to be searching for today.

John Lewis, meanwhile, will start its online sale at 5pm today while Currys/PC World will follow at 7pm.

Other retailers have already launched a sell-off of stock.

Catalogue store Argos is offering up to 60pc off on selected lines, such as coffee machines, half-price toys and 40pc off some TVs. A Hitachi 24 inch television has been reduced from 249.99 to 149.99.

Debenhams began its sale on Saturday. It is offering up to 60pc off on furniture with a 'Paris' brown leather sofa reduced from 2,500 to 1,000. It is also offering 50pc off on a wide range of clothes and footwear and even aftershave, with free delivery.

The retailer expects “online trade to be busy, especially on Christmas Day” as the same day last year saw more than 800,000 hits on its website.

Its in-store sale, as with M&S, begins on Boxing Day. John Lewis will not offer the discounts in-store until the following day.

The store, which had a internet hit with its snowman adverts, said its most popular products were tablets, such as Apple's iPad. Its sale will include up to 50pc off furniture.

Halfords is offering a 'web exclusive' of 10pc off everything until midnight on Christmas Day as well as clearance prices on bikes, radios and satnavs. A Garmin Nuvi is reduced from 299.99 to 99.Great discounts on our huge range of Specialized Cycling clothing - shorts, jerseys, jackets & more.99, plus the additional 10pc off until tomorrow. A suspect in a strong-arm robbery Tuesday evening pepper sprayed two women and a 10-year-old while trying to steal a purse.

A fight started and one of the suspects sprayed the victims with pepper spray, taking a purse. The group fled on foot.

Police searched the area unsuccessfully, and are asking anyone with information to call the police at 897-4912.

The suspects are described as a white male in his 30s, about 6-foot-0, 150 pounds, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap; a white male in his 50s, about 6-foot-2, 155 pounds, with gray hair, wearing a plaid jacket; a white female in her 50s, 5-foot-7 wearing a gray jacket and white beanie hat; and a white female in her 20s, 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, with blonde hair wearing a white peacoat.

A Telegraph reader has sent in this letter, in which he concludes that smart-casual is the most appropriate dress for December 21, 2012 - "the end of the world".

Dear Friends, I have been pondering something important recently and was encouraged by a friend to share it with you. With my background in protocol and etiquette I feel that I have sufficient knowledge to speak authoritatively on this topic. This burning question that needs an answer is, of course, what to wear for the end of the world. Yes,Shop women's Ralph Lauren Sweater. I'm sure it has crossed your mind as well and here is my considered opinion on the matter.

Do not over dress. Evening jacket or sequinned cocktail dress is far too pretentious and, let's face it, just not that comfortable. A good rule of thumb is not to wear any outfit that requires a tie or expensive clutch. They just want an authentic north face jackets to be cool.Free Shipping And No Tax on All authentic Christian Louboutin Pumps Online.

Mind you, this option never crossed the minds of most people, but you're not most people now are you? You're the discerning type who likes to make a good impression, just remember that it might look like you're trying too hard if you over dress when meeting your maker. He/She will appreciate it more if you dress in a smart but casual manner.

On the other side of the spectrum are those who intend to meet their maker in a bathrobe and fuzzy bunny slippers. Mind you, God does enjoy the ironic aspects of mankind, but dressing is such a manner shows a lack of respect both for yourself and your Creator.

The moment shouldn’t have felt so good.

All along, we knew the day would come. We knew the chosen women would be so privileged that a golf-club membership and new green jacket wouldn’t dramatically improve their lives, much less change the world.

On the list of things that really matter, sexually desegregating Augusta National Golf Club couldn’t crack the top 5 million. On the list of things affecting women, the issue resided light years beneath honor killings, a continent apart from equal pay, and a few blocks south of dry cleaners who charge more for blouses than men’s shirts.

Yet the August 20 news that Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore had been admitted brought a little smile, an odd comfort. In the 10 years since Martha Burk began a campaign against the club’s all-male ranks, her point had steadily gained subliminal power. Recently, it added a wry laugh track.

Before the 2010 Masters, club chairman Billy Payne publicly chastised Tiger Woods for serial infidelity and failed role-modeling. Bear in mind that Augusta National had always linked its defense of a male-only membership to the liberties afforded a private club. Now,Free Shipping And No Tax on All authentic Christian Louboutin Pumps Online. it deemed one man’s libertine sex life worthy of censure.

At least, Burk was minding her own business. She ran the National Council of Women’s Organizations (which welcomes men).Is my authentic Ralph Lauren Polo truly ? Who ever put a golf-club chairman in charge of enforcing marriage vows?

From the very beginning, Burk’s adversaries helped her more than anything. One could argue that the first meaningful shot in this battle came from Hootie Johnson, the then-club chairman, and his metaphorical bayonet. If he had practiced Southern charm in his reply to Burk, the story might never have taken flight. He could have invited her to the club as his guest, for a chat and a round of golf. He could have assured her that Augusta National’s progressive members, himself included,A moncler jackets men, often called a seat, is one of three contact points on an upright bicycle, the others being the pedals and the handlebars. agreed with her and were working toward the same goal.

Hootie went with this instead: “There may well come a day when women will be invited to join our membership but that timetable will be ours and not at the point of a bayonet.’’

The woman had sent a bland letter, threatening no more than paper cuts, and he conjured up a picture that linked Augusta National to the 18th century and a preoccupation with phallic objects. Game on.

Even as the national media grabbed hold of the conflict, I wanted it to slip away. It was my job to consider the subject, but even being paid to care didn’t move the needle much.

Then the opposition came to play. Commentator after commentator said over and over, with ever more volume, that excluding women from Augusta National shouldn’t matter. They said only rich ladies, CEOs like Carly Fiorina or Meg Whitman, would benefit. So why care? They bitterly demanded an end to the story, mercy from hearing about something so insignificant when there were birdies, NCAA basketball and spring training to contemplate.Sofia Vergara wearing christian louboutin platform pumps. Rarely will you see such ardent, aggressive apathy.

Did it not matter when black men were excluded before 1990 if ending that tradition served only to put another wealthy man in a green jacket? Did it matter if Jews were kept out of clubs? Steven Spielberg could certainly endure such a snub.

Burk’s detractors called her a man-hater, even as she campaigned for women to get to spend more time with the guys. They just want an authentic north face jackets to be cool. They called her an outsider agitator. The people saying this were mostly outsiders, including one who identified himself as a Klansman.

Augusta National has one voice, the chairman’s. The members don’t speak of its policies. They’re not even supposed to speak of their memberships. The club is Skull and Bones with a huge backyard.

Yet every year, the place opens up to a national audience. The Masters sets Augusta National apart, giving it a mission, to promote and enhance golf. The founders put that in writing. Many other elite clubs disdain the scent of a woman. None flatters itself as a keeper of the game.

Kick off the New Year with a smart new look that incorporates jackets, lace-up boots and plaid shirts.

The thin canvas slip-on shoes of summer will need to be replaced with something a little sturdier now that the cold is setting in, so it's hardly surprising that sleek leather lace-ups are already making their way into the shops, as are the chunkier boots which proved popular this time last year.

Blazers will feature heavily for 2013, from the military cut to the more relaxed traditional fitting jackets. For something a little different why not invest in a tweed number and offset it with a thick chequered shirt, perfect for the cold weekend evenings.

Chicago-based StyleSeek is a men's fashion site that generates clothing recommendations based on users' tastes. Co-founder and CEO Tyler Spalding is a rocket scientist who worked on space shuttle equipment for NASA and Lockheed Martin Corp., then left for the startup world after deciding his favorite part of the job was tackling big problems as part of a small team.SAXO BANK Cycling

StyleSeek launched this summer and has about 15,000 users, although visitors to StyleSeek.com are still asked to submit a request for membership. To bypass this process, do a Web search for “StyleSeek DNA” and you can enter the site through a virtual back door; from there,Castelli Cycling you can create an account.

Mr. Spalding tells Crain's contributor Steve Hendershot more about the company.

Crain's: How does a rocket scientist go about developing a menswear site? Explain the process you followed in developing StyleSeek.

Tyler Spalding: Menswear has been relatively untapped for a very long time. There's extremely low competition, and it's really, really fragmented. We wanted to understand why this was not the hot space. It was 25 percent of what the women's (fashion market) was. But it was also harder because there are fewer men who are exploratory and want a product like this.

The initial idea was to get male influencers to share what clothing they had, kind of like a digital closet, and say, “Here's exactly the stuff that he wears.” And then allow people to find more things like that.

We talked to people and heard that menswear e-commerce was going to become a fast-growing segment. That more and more men are really caring about this, and in a year or three years there will be a lot more men making this market a lot more exciting. Thankfully, all that stuff came true. Menswear e-commerce is the No. 1 growing segment in the entire world right now. The growth is just absolutely absurd.

From there, we tried to understand why men buy clothing online and why they don't. Then we looked at it from the retailing perspective to see if retailers care about this,Garmin Cycling and if they see menswear as something that's challenging for them. The result was a resounding yes, that they spend a lot of time and money trying to draw in male customers, and it's a becoming a greater part of their business, but it's hard to bring qualified male traffic to their sites. So we knew that there was a need there.

Then it was all about trying to build a product for men that didn't already exist, and that men would be excited about. We needed to build an experience that they could use, and that was even a little bit fun.RadioShack Cycling

We asked guys, "How do you know that what you're wearing is actually socially acceptable and that people aren't laughing at you?" It turns out they look around in social situations; if they're in business school, they go to class and look around and see the people there and mimic the (prevailing) style. That was huge, that replicative behavior. It was real-world style; guys didn't watch movies or read magazines to try to figure out aspirational looks; they started at a much lower level, and that was something we didn't expect. It gave us a starting point featuring real clothing. From there we built a Pandora-like algorithm and did a lot of testing, learning different items that sort of cluster together. That feedback led us to refine it into something that people end up using.

The way it works is that a user will come to the site and go through our style game where they select images of lifestyle choices, things that aren't necessarily related to fashion, like cars, movies, magazines. Then we then build up a style profile for you similar to (a Pandora music channel) and then you get matched to reviews, blogs, products and brands that are 100 percent personalized for you. We also introduce you to small brands that you wouldn't typically have exposure to, and if you're reading about a new jacket, we'll link to the actual jacket so you can buy it.

We'll also show alternatives,Specialized Cycling so if you see Prada shoes and love them but the price is outside your range, we'll show you why they're great and why they cost $1,000. But we can show you other shoes that are stylistically almost identical — maybe uses a different material — or we'll show you the "Made in the USA" version.

Fur,Castelli CyclingRadioShack Cycling a-must-item to look glamorous than ever

Fur has been a popular F/W season's items to many women. It is warm and has glamorous look which makes a perfect item for winter.

However, fur got popular and its uniqueness has been diminished. Although single colored fur items were spread to public but now celebrities are wearing fur items with strong colors and unique details.

Here are some examples of unique and glamorous fur items.Garmin Cycling

Fur with colors

Multicolored fur items are easy to match. Because cold weather is not going anywhere, various fur items are out. With animal prints, it gives even more unique look.

Because fur items have volume and out in different types as vest and hoodies, there are many options to choose from. When with colors, it is strong enough so it is important not to look ‘too-much'.

Spotlight is on! fur with patterns

For fashion people who want something extra-special, there are fur items with patterns and prints also available in various length and sizes.

One of the examples can be Urapower Fur Jacket from online shopping mall Aura-J. It has neon-pink color with zebra pattern. It stands out from far distance as well. Also it is long enough to cover the hip and keep warm.

In case of leopard pattern, they are one of the favored patterns in winter season and it looks good on fur. Inside of the fur item with leopard pattern, it should be simple.

Too much? How about simpler fur items

If it feels too much, there are items with simpler and basic designs but trendy. Fur jackets and faux-fur knit mini dress can be a good idea.

In case of a safari jumper, fur is attached to hoodies. However, they might look good but they won't keep the warmth inside. When considering a fur item, design and function is both important.

According to Aura-J, they ordered various fur items and styling to find the needs of women who want to have unique and stylish fur item for this winter.

Almost directly across Artesia, the Salvation Army holds treasures, although hunting them down may not be quite as easy. It can be worth the effort, however, especially when scouting for dishes and glassware in the boutique area. Two stunning casserole dishes with decorative covers run about $15 each, and a set of whimsical wine glasses are $10. Boxed Christmas cards to ornaments to books and DVDs cost next to nothing.

At the South Bay Children's Hospital of Los Angeles Auxiliary Thrift Shop on Aviation Boulevard in North Redondo Beach, many children's toys and baby clothes look ready to pop under the tree. Many things are new, including some baby clothes, said volunteer Lucy Van Leuven. The Manhattan Beach resident said that's because babies often outgrow clothes received as shower or baby gifts before they are ever worn.

Stuffed toys, including Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore ($7 each), are in perfect condition. Baby items range from a pink fur jacket for $3 to pink-and-white pajamas for $1.50 to a Tinker Bell backpack for $5. Clothes are arranged according to age, and merchandise includes some adorable nursery art, Christmas dolls and décor.SAXO BANK Cycling

Donations that don't reflect the quality the thrift store insists upon are passed onto the Good Will, said Pat Harrison, who will take over as auxiliary president in April. The Hermosa Beach resident said the current store has been at the same location since 1970.

“In 201Specialized Cycling4, (the auxiliary) will celebrate our 100th year anniversary,” Harrison added. “And all our proceeds go to the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.”

For many fortunate people, Christmas is a time to party, whether with family or friends. Possibly the most outrageous gift can be an elaborate Christmas sweater, and no store offers a more plentiful supply than Aaardvark on Artesia Boulevard. Cardigans, vests and pullovers come in all sizes, shapes and colors, not to mention with decorations such as Santas, elves, snowflakes, angels, you name it.

Nobody likes waiting a long time for food or a table at a restaurant. It's normal, in that situation, to get grouchy. But one customer at a Denny's in San Antonio allegedly got so upset when he was made to wait that he became downright Grinch-y -- and firehappy.

According a report by local NBC affiliate WOAI, embedded above, the man set fire to the Christmas tree in the I-35 location of Denny's before fleeing the scene. Police are pursuing the arsonist, with the help of Denny's surveillance footage,Castelli Cycling but haven't yet been able to identify him.

ABC affiliate KVUE reports that the man was upset because he had to wait too long for his check. But given that he allegedly caused $150,000 in damage, it's possible that the police have a much, much bigger check in store for him when he's caught.

The grandfather carries Buddha Boy on his back up the stairs. He takes him to class, where the kids practice a Special Olympics game.RadioShack Cycling Squares are drawn on the classroom floor, and students jump from square to square. The Buddha Boy raises his arms, and the grandfather holds his hands, lifting him into each square. The teachers cheer.

I don't see the grandfather every day. When I do, it's for seconds at a time. And yet I admire him. I admire his devotion. I envy it. I envy his dedication and commitment; his determined, unyielding love.

In his book "Stumbling on Happiness," Daniel Gilbert, a Harvard psychology professor, determined that most parents aren't happy when dealing with their kids. That's because parenting is work. Tiring, stressful, frequently irritating work. And yet many parents say their most profoundly happy moments involve their children: a transcendental happiness that extends beyond the day-to-day.

For all the burdens the grandfather must suffer, I know he has experienced transcendental happiness. In his own mellow, mild way, he exudes it.

So here is my final memory of the Dancer. After he runs around the room, shouting, arms flailing -- knocking down books from a shelf -- a teacher rearranges the desks to confine him. Making the best of his detention, he contemplates a puzzle, attempting to put shapes -- circle, square, triangle -- into corresponding slots.Garmin Cycling It's a puzzle my 3-year-old nephew can manage in minutes, but the Dancer, a third grader, is stumped. He puts the square against the circle. The circle against the triangle. Then, aggravated or bored, he chews it.

Next we play with plastic blocks -- like Legos, but flatter and curved. They connect at their ends like jigsaw pieces and we link them in a long squiggle across the desk. And then he does something amazing: he connects the pieces vertically, building up instead of out.

I'm stunned. It never occurred to me build up. Your instinct is to connect them flat. Moments ago he failed a puzzle a 2-year-old could handle, now he's thinking in an original, inventive way.

And maybe that's the secret. To solve the puzzle that's life, we find new ways to fit the pieces.

The Dancer and I both have amazing women in our lives. I will never meet his mother, but she's a single mom raising an autistic child. And I am so lucky to have my wife. We've known each other since sixth grade, we've been married 20 years, and as I walk Xi'an's packed streets, I'll repeatedly think, I'll have to come back with Julie.Specialized Cycling Like I haven't really been here if she isn't with me.

I'd wondered how I could live up to my father's life when I'm not a father myself. But we live up to those who shaped us by honoring their strongest values, by caring for those we cherish, and caring for those that they cherished.SAXO BANK Cycling By helping others succeed, as Dad once said.

I smile at the Dancer. He seems unaware that his puzzle construction is somehow unique.

"That's excellent," I tell him. "Really smart thinking."

I hope that despite his blank expression he can see how happy I am, and see me applauding, and somehow understand.
